ATV TRAILS EXPAND
TO FOREST COUNTY AND BEYOND
The local ATV Clubs and Forest County Clubs have
been working for a long time to connect The Nicolet Trail (old Oconto County
Recreational Trail) to the Forest County System and beyond. They have finally
accomplished that goal. Now you can come to visit Spur of the Moment Ranch; ride
the Dusty Trails; enjoy the trails out into Marinette County; and head north to
explore the Nicolet Trail through Forest County. It is hoped that by the
end of Summer 2009; you will be able to get on up to the UP of Michigan on your
ATV.
ATV Trails opened May 1rst;
and close on October 31. Have a great summer.
CAMPSITES OPEN MAY
1 – OCTOBER 31
Bring your living quarters
trailers or your toy haulers and enjoy a relaxing stay at Spur of the Moment
Ranch in their campground. Not all your buddies have rigs. That is ok; because
Spur of the Moment Ranch has a variety of accommodations including rustic
camping cabins; and full housekeeping cabins. Because we sit on 12 acres; you
have your own space; but are accommodations are convenient to each other, making
your weekend with family or friends ideal for spending time together and having
fun.
GETAWAYS
Although we have space for horses and ATV’s, does
not mean that if those adventures are not for you, you cannot have a good time
at the ranch. Many folks just come to get away from the hectic 24/7 life that is
our world of today.
At the ranch
you can just SIT in the shade of one of the cabin porches and relax. Bring up a
good book; or borrow one of ours. Go for a walk; watch for our bald eagle that
soars over the river; look for our neighborhood fox and her little brood of pups
playing in one of the neighboring fields. Let the ranch guinea hens entertain
you with their antics. Come and pet or feed the donkeys some grass and weeds;
they love visitors; and can lower the blood pressure of almost all type A
personalities. Slow yourself down, book a carriage ride, let life pass you by
for a couple days and see how good you feel.
MASSAGE
BEGINS 2ND YEAR
Lori
Yeager has been a wonderful addition to our ranch. Many folks have enjoyed the
relaxation that comes with having a massage. This year, we have added ½ hour
sessions for those folks who may have never had massage and are not sure if they
will like it; or for those who need to watch their pennies but need the stress
relief. We also have our 1 hour sessions; but we have also added a 1 ½ hour
session for those who need a little extra stress relief; or are trying to work
out an injury or weekend warrior overloads. Whatever the reason, massage can be
a great add on to any weekend at the ranch.
You may make
your appointment when you schedule your reservation at the ranch. Unfortunately,
you cannot make massage appointments on line, but if you mention in the comments
section, someone will call or email and get it scheduled.
You can also
make an appointment when you get to the ranch, just let Ann know when you check
in, and it can be scheduled then.
GROWTH SPURT COMPOST
Last July, Skip
and I took a two day driving adventure to Pennsylvania to go pick up about
35,000 of our newest best friends. They are our red wiggly worms. They were
great little travelers, didn’t say much; no arguing; and they didn’t have to be
entertained. When we got them back to the ranch, we started up our
Vermicomposting Unit. It took all winter, but today, we have approximately
250,000 worms in our unit, and are harvesting natural compost about two times a
week.
The worms eat
and digest our horse manure; a byproduct of our horse guests at the ranch; and
decompose it into a rich natural compost, which is a wonderful natural
fertilizer supplement for your flower or vegetable gardens when mixed in with
your soil.
Feel free to
take a free tour of our facility when you are visiting the ranch. Natural
Compost is available for purchase at the ranch.
More About the Ranch
The Ranch is a unique destination, a place for guests to pursue their
personal adventure; or a cozy, quiet place to relax with friends and family. The
ranch sits on the Nicolet Trail (Oconto County Recreational Trail) and at the edge of the
Nicolet National Forest; down the road from the Oconto River; and at the north
end of Chute Pond. Our setting allows for a wide range of recreational pursuits
any season of the year whether they involve ATV's; horses; snowmobiles; cross
country skiing; kayaking; snow shoeing; hiking; fishing; or hunting. For your
comfort and price range their are rustic camping cabins; full house-keeping
cabins; or independent camp sites available. Our guests enjoy opportunities to
reminisce with old friends or make new ones around the campfires. Everyone
enjoys petting Thorn, the 2,200 lb. Perchron or the many miniature donkeys that
reside at the ranch. Kids find climbing the many rock piles or sitting on the
swing great fun. Some of our guests find cooking over the big fire pits to be
great family fun; while others enjoy dining out at local restaurants and supper
clubs.
The ranch is a member of the Wisconsin Innkeepers Association; Dairyland
Driving Club; Chute Pond Trail Systems; Dusty Trail System; the Mountain Business Association
and Carriage Operators of North American.
Ann and Skip Maletzke are the proprietors of the Ranch. We own Hackney,
Saddlebred, Perchron horses and Miniature Donkeys that we used for pleasure
driving. We have operated both commercial training
operations, Willowlane Farm and Stables, an American Saddlebred Show
Training Barn, and breeding operations. We also own and operate SRMi Consulting, LLC., a consulting
company specializing in the design and building of mobile medical clinics and
specialty display systems.
